About This Quote

Feminism is not a one size fits all kinda thing but anyone can wear it. While I have been a feminist for as long as I can remember, I have never been called a feminist. In fact, until recently, I had no idea what the word meant. I grew up in a conservative family who believed that women should be subservient to men and that women could do no wrong.

I was told that women were fragile beings who needed to be protected from any sort of danger. As a result of this belief, I grew up with a very narrow view of what a woman could do to be considered a good one. It was only when my friends started cheering me on for being “such a feminist” that I realized what feminism actually means.

In my opinion, feminism means doing things because you want to do them and not because you feel like it will make you look good or make other people like you more. It means standing up for the rights of all people regardless of gender or race or religion or culture or anything else, whether you like it or not.
